Keeping the Faith Seminar

Posted 19th April, 2013. by admin.

Category: Archdiocesan News and Events

The Holy Father Benedict XVI has recently declared in his Motu ProprioPorta Fidei” that 11 October 2012 to 24 November 2013 will be the Year of Faith. He expects that the Church will renew her vigour for evangelisation throughout the stipulated year.

With this, we call to mind the apostolic ministry of one of the greatest evangelists of all time, St Paul, who revolutionised the ancient world through his evangelisation activity and teaching of the Word of God.

Who was St Paul, really? How much has he impacted Christianity as we know it today? And what did he really teach in his multiple volumes of letters written to the Christians in various parts of the world? And most importantly, what do his teachings mean for us?

This six-session series of talks journeys with you through an intriguing study to discover who the Apostle Paul was and what his life project was about.

Speaker: Rev Deacon Dr Sherman Kuek, OFS

On Pope Benedict XVI’s resignation from the Petrine Office

Posted 12th February, 2013. by admin.

Category: Archdiocesan News and Events

His Grace Archbishop John Ha’s comments on the resignation of Pope Benedict XVI:

Pope Benedict XVI’s announcement that he will resign on 28 February 2013 has taken everybody by surprise, but drawn much admiration. It speaks loudly of his faith, humility and love. For the papacy is not so much about an individual as about the Church.

When he was elected Pope on 19 April 2005, he accepted the very important office entrusted to him by the Cardinals with great faith in God and love for the Church. He obeyed in faith and love. He carried out his Petrine ministry with total dedication. Now that he is enfeebled by his age, he very humbly acknowledges that the strength of mind and body so necessary to proclaim the Gospel has deteriorated in him. Again for the love of the Church he has decided to step down – undoubtedly after much thought and prayer.

Pope Benedict XVI’s courage shone out in his acceptance of the Petrine Office at the age of 78 and now shines out again in his decision to step down due to deterioration caused by age. We thank him for his love for the Church and the faithful ministry he has exercised for the benefit of all – the Church and beyond. We pray God to continue to bless him as he “devotedly serves the Holy Church of God in the future through a life dedicated to prayer”.
